When the Skywalk Biokovo was still being made, I somehow didn’t like it at all. I always thought that human intervention has to be minimal in beautiful landscapes such as Biokovo Mountain. But once it was made, I began to realize that human intervention can be made in a way that coexists with the mountain. And so I began to like this glass walkway that stretches in front of high Biokovo cliffs and lets you test your courage by walking on it.
Skywalk Biokovo is one of Croatia’s most known attractions, at least when it comes to Makarska Riviera. This unique landmark offers visitors a chance to step out onto a glass floor with nothing but thick glass beneath their feet, all this while enjoying thrilling views of Makarska Riviera and nearby islands. We have visited this Biokovo attraction at least 15 times so far, and as locals, we’re going to share our best insights on Skywalk Biokovo and the rest of the Biokovo Nature Park with you.
Let’s walk the Skywalk together!

Where Is Skywalk Biokovo Located?
The Biokovo Skywalk is part of the Biokovo Nature Park, located in southern Croatia near the town of Makarska. To be more exact, it’s embedded into the Biokovo cliffs above Tučepi, and you can easily notice it when traveling on the coastal road below. This area is part of the Dalmatian Coast, known for its beaches and unique blend of mountains and the sea. Makarska Riviera is considered to be a part of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia.
The Skywalk itself is located at a part known as Ravna Vlaška, approximately 1,228 meters above sea level, and it offers a stunning view of the Adriatic Sea, nearby islands, and the surrounding mountain peaks. The Biokovo Nature Park location makes it easily accessible from popular nearby destinations such as Split, Makarska, and Dubrovnik, making it a must-visit place and a great addition to your Croatian adventure .

How to Get to Skywalk Biokovo
Getting to the Biokovo Skywalk is easy but requires some planning if you want to have the best possible experience. The entrance to Biokovo Nature Park is located near the city of Makarska , and from there, you need to follow the Biokovo Road, a narrow, winding route leading up the mountain and through some of the most unique landscapes you’ll see that day. This road in Biokovo Nature Park is an adventure in itself, with bends and incredible views along the way.
If you’re driving to Skywalk Biokovo, be prepared for a slow ascent due to the narrow road and lots of traffic during peak season. There’s a parking area next to the Skywalk, but spaces can fill up quickly, so we suggest arriving as early as possible.
Also, a tip from us if you want to have a carefree experience of this fascinating mountain – don’t go in the Park in your own car and use some of the available guided tours instead. You’ll save a lot of nerves that way and it’s going to be a much better overall experience.
Last time we have visited Biokovo Skywalk was the time we experienced one of the strongest Bura winds in our lives
2024 Tučepi and Biokovo Nature Park Fire Update
Unfortunately, a huge fire struck the area of Tučepi, Podgora, and the entrance of the Biokovo Nature Park. As you ascend into the park, you’ll notice that a lot of the trees in this part were burned. Not a pleasant sight, but the situation could have been way worse if Croatian firemen hadn’t stopped the fire. Know that nature will recover and in a few years, new trees will emerge.
However, let it be a sign for you to respect nature and think about your impact when visiting it. Every one of us is responsible for our own actions when it comes to protecting the nature surrounding us.
Cycling to this attraction of Biokovo Mountain is a great way to experience it with no need to drive through the Biokovo Nature Park

Best Time of the Year to Visit Skywalk Biokovo
We have never visited Biokovo Skywalk during the summer season nor do we want to. A few years ago, we used to organize guided hiking tours in Biokovo Nature Park and we used to drive through the park in our van and then hike to some of the famous peaks such as Vošac and Sv. Jure – the highest peak of the Biokovo Mountain. We already had enough of it after our first tour but decided to do a few more.
If you ask us, the best time of the year to visit the Biokovo Skywalk is during the spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October). During these months the weather is mild, and the park is less crowded compared to the peak summer season. We know that there is a high probability that you are visiting Croatia in the summer months and we don’t try to discourage you from visiting Biokovo Nature Park. On the contrary, we think that you need to experience this mountain and explore not only Skywalk Biokovo but many other great places as well.
Summer (July and August) is the period when Biokovo Mountain is most crowded and the temperatures are highest too. If you’re visiting during this time, consider arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the heat and crowds.
Winter is the period when Biokovo Nature Park is officially closed, although it can still be visited. But snow and ice can make access quite challenging. Make sure you always check weather conditions and park updates before planning your trip to Biokovo Skywalk and the rest of Biokovo Mountain. It’s no fun getting all the way up there just to find yourself standing in the cloud and seeing nothing at all.
To conclude, here’s what to expect out of each season at Skywalk Biokovo:
Spring (April – June): Perfect because of mild temperatures, clear skies, and fewer crowds.
Summer (July – August): Peak tourist season with hot temperatures and lots of people visiting the park; early morning visits are recommended.
Autumn (September – October): Pleasant weather, fewer visitors, and great visibility. Autumn sunsets from the Skywalk Biokovo are absolutely amazing.
Winter (November – March): Access to the Skywalk Biokovo may be limited due to snow and colder temperatures. We did one winter tour in Biokovo Nature Park a few years ago, and although we couldn’t walk on Skywalk, it was one of the best adventures we ever had.

Best Time of the Day to Visit Biokovo Mountain
The best time of the day to visit the Biokovo Skywalk is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Avoid midday at all costs for multiple reasons. Visiting in the morning allows you to enjoy cooler temperatures and you get the chance to see the mountain and coastline bathed beautiful golden light of a rising sun. The air is often clearer at this time, offering better visibility of the nearby islands (Hvar, Brač) and the Adriatic Sea and Makarska Riviera below you.
Late afternoons are equally magical, as the sun begins to set it creates a magical sight. Midday visits, although possible, can be less comfortable and we suggest you avoid them, especially during the high season.
For photographers, both morning and late afternoon provide ideal lighting conditions for capturing breathtaking views. If the day is clear enough, after the rain or well-known Bura wind, you might even have a chance to see Italy and its mountains in the distance.
Biokovo Nature Park through the day:
Early Morning (7 AM – 10 AM): Best for avoiding crowds and experiencing cooler temperatures.
Late Afternoon (4 PM – 6 PM): Perfect for sunset views and stunning photography.
Midday (11 AM – 3 PM): Typically the busiest time; temperatures can be very high in summer so make sure you wear sun protection since the sun is even stronger at altitudes compared to the sea level.
Evening/Night: The Biokovo Nature Park closes before dark, so plan accordingly.
