Neretva Valley is perfect for all sorts of adventure activities and kayaking being one the best ones offers you the opportunity to explore places of Neretva river that otherwise might seem hidden.
In this kayaking tour which used to start at the city of Opuzen, we embarked on a journey through Neretva Valley canals and until we’d finally reach Kuti Lake. Neretva canals are a true labyrinth in the untouched nature and it’s not too hard to get lost. Kuti Lake is a stunning place in the Neretva Valley and there are many legends related to it. One of these stories includes a legend about the ancient city of Troy being buried under the sand of Kuti Lake. Many locals swear that you can see some walls on the bottom of the lake during the clear days. Even if it’s just a legend it sparks your imagination. What if the ancient Troy really lies on the bottom of Kuti Lake? Even if that’s not the case you’ll be astonished by the pure nature around you as you pass the narrow canals full of water lilies and finally reach Kuti lake.
If you are visiting Neretva River Delta we suggest you visit Kuti Lake too. It’s one of the most secluded parts of the valley, and there are traditional boat tours that can take you through the same labyrinth of canals we used to kayak through. Kuti Lake is also famous for many local restaurants and family-run farms so it’s a must-visit place if you’re searching for the local gastro delights.
In the Neretva Valley, you can enjoy traditional boat safaris, or indulge in the local food like Eel and frog specialties. Unfortunately, there are not as many adventure tours in the Neretva Valley as there might exist, but we’ll recommend some of the best adventure tours from the area.
Neretva Valley is located somewhere in the middle between the cities of Split and Dubrovnik and it’s one of the most unique places on the Dalmatian coast. Neretva River flows through Croatia only for 20 kilometers and pours into the sea near the city of Ploče. The mouth of the Nereva is located just 10 minutes of driving away from the main D-8 road that passes through southern Croatia.
So if you’re traveling from Split to Dubrovnik or from Dubrovnik to Split, the Neretva River Delta should be on the list of the places to visit along the way. We spent so many great days in this valley, whether it was through our kayaking tours in Croatia or through some other adventures. There are a few nice and rather short hikes on the hills that surround the valley and two of the most popular one are Babina Gomila peak and Marin Vijenac peak. Both of these hikes result in stunning views of the Neretva River Valley.
