I have been enjoying ambient music for a long time now and find it more and more relaxing as I grow older. You know that evolving droning music that is minimalistic, but has that specific evocative feeling to it. Imagine now that such music is not produced by some artist, but by the wind through the organ embedded into the peak of the hill. Well, you don’t need to imagine it, you can experience it through the Rogotin wind organ located just above Rogotin, a small village in southern Croatia.
For a long time, the Zadar sea organ was the only installation of this type and it attracted numerous visitors who just wanted to sit on the promenade, gaze at the Adriatic Sea, and let their minds wander through the droning sounds made by the sea organ. And then, after some time, the Croatian winds got the chance to say a word or few through the Rogotin wind organ.
Let’s listen to what it has to say.
Where is the Rogotin Wind Organ Located?

When is the Best Time to Visit?
The best time to visit Rogotin Wind Organ is any windy day. As we already mentioned, the stronger the wind, the louder the sounds are. When we visited this organ, it was a cloudy and very windy winter day and we were able to enjoy both the view and the music at the same time.
- Spring and Autumn: These seasons offer mild weather and comfortable hiking conditions even though the hike is relatively short. The wind is also more consistent, ensuring a better chance to hear the organ.
- Summer: While the weather is warm, start your hike late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and to listen to the Maestral wind that blows almost every summer afternoon. It’s one of the reasons the Neretva River Delta is a paradise for kitesurfing in Croatia.
- Winter: The days can be very windy, creating the perfect conditions for the organ, but check the weather beforehand to avoid rain or strong storms. Bura wind is the strongest in Croatia and it would be great to visit the organ at times when this wind blows.
