Welcome to our website. As Croats who have been experiencing Croatia’s weather for the past 30 years, we have decided to write a series of articles about Croatia throughout the year – what to expect regarding temperatures, how to dress, swimming conditions in particular months, and more.
Although we’re not professional meteorologists, we have a weather station installed on our house on the Makarska Riviera (one of the most popular and visited parts of Croatia), and we love keeping track of weather conditions all year round. June in Croatia, the month in which the summer starts and the month in which most of the people start swimming regularly. We love June because of many things, and we’re going to discuss some of them in this article. Regarding weather in Croatia in June, the days are getting longer and warmer and the Adriatic Sea starts to warm up quickly.
It’s the perfect month for travelers looking to get pleasant weather and fewer crowds out of their vacation in Croatia. Compared to the peak summer months of July and August, Croatia is not as crowded as during these hot summer months. Here’s everything you need to know about the weather in Croatia in June and what to expect if you choose to visit Croatia in this period.
Overview of Weather in Croatia in June
We’re starting with a short overview from which you’ll already be able to get an image on what to expect weather-wise.
Season: Early Summer
Average Temperature: Ranges from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F) depending on the region. Not that these are the average temperatures and the high ones can go up to 36 °C (96.8 °F).
Daylight Hours: Around 15-16 hours of daylight per day, great for outdoor activities.
Weather: Mostly sunny but expect some rain showers, especially inland. These June rain showers tend to be quick and the skies clear soon after.
As you can see, the highest temperature in June of 2024. recorded on our weather station was 36.3 °C which was one of the highest temperatures in that whole summer
Average Temperatures by Region
As you might already know, Croatia is split in different regions and these differ quite a lot when it comes to the weather in Croatia. The region with the most stable weather in June is Dalmatia, which has a Mediterranean climate. Overall, you can expect better weather in the coastal parts of Croatia compared to the inland areas.
1. Coastal Areas (Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar)
Average High: 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F)
Average Low: 18°C to 21°C (64°F to 70°F)
Climate: Warm, sunny, lightly breezy with low humidity. It’s basically already summer here.
2. Inland Areas (Zagreb, Plitvice Lakes, Slavonia)
Average High: 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F)
Average Low: 14°C to 18°C (57°F to 64°F)
Climate: Slightly cooler, especially during the night. Occasional thunderstorms are to be expected in this region.
3. Mountainous Regions (Gorski Kotar, Velebit)
Average High: 18°C to 22°C (64°F to 72°F)
Average Low: 10°C to 14°C (50°F to 57°F)
Climate: Cool, fresh air with also occasional rain showers. These are the coldest parts of Croatia so if you’re planning on visiting them, keep these temperatures in mind and bring warm clothes.
You can see here that the hottest day was 22nd of June and that there are many days with temperatures above 30 °C
Sea Temperature in June
When it comes to the sea temperature in Croatia in June, it’s quite higher than in May, and the sea gets warmer with each passing day. June is a perfect month for swimming in Croatia.
Adriatic Sea Temperature: Ranges from 22°C to 25°C (72°F to 77°F) , great for swimming, snorkeling, and all other water activities.
Best Swimming Spots: Dalmatia and southern Croatia have a bit warmer sea than the Istrian peninsula.
Sunshine and Daylight Hours
Days in June in Croatia are getting longer and longer, and as the end of the month approaches, the days are at their longest before they start to get shorter in July.
Sunshine: An average of 10-12 hours of sunshine per day.
Longest Days: Around the summer solstice (June 20-21), the longest days in the whole year, perfect for many things, especially for outdoor exploration.

Rainfall and Precipitation
Nobody likes rain during their vacation, and we have some good news when it comes to the rain in June in Croatia. There is quite a low chance that rain will ruin your vacation in Croatia in June.
Coastal Regions: Light, occasional showers with an average of 3-5 rainy days in the whole month.
Inland Areas: Higher chance of short, but intense thunderstorms, especially in the late afternoons. These tend to pass quickly and leave the fresh air.
Tip: Pack a light rain jacket or umbrella just in case. We suggest rain poncho that is lightweight, doesn’t take up much space, and covers your whole body.

Wind Conditions
When it comes to winds in Croatia, there are 3 main winds that are most common – Bura, Jugo, and Maestral. Maestral is the usual wind for summer in Croatia, but there might be some days with other winds blowing too, although they are not as strong in June as they are in colder months.
Bura Wind: Strongest wind in Croatia that brings dry, cool air, especially strong on the northern Adriatic coast.
Sirocco Wind (Jugo): Warm and moist wind from the south, bringing rain and bad weather
Maestral: Steady wind that surfers like, blows from the sea to the land in the afternoon of almost every summer day.
There were also 2 days with a slightly stronger wind in a whole month
Best Activities to Enjoy in June
June is still a month in which you can enjoy outdoor activities in Croatia, although it can get very hot, especially by the end of the month. It’s not the best month for the outdoor adventures like longer hikes and such. If you’re into adventure and outdoors, June is perfect for all kinds of water-based activities. June in Croatia is best for:
Beach Days: Enjoy on Croatia’s stunning beaches while they are still not as crowded as they will soon be.
Island Hopping: Explore islands like Hvar, Korčula, and Vis with frequent ferry connections or through a day trip from tourist centers on the mainland.
Water Sports: June is pthe erfect month for kayaking in Croatia, paddleboarding, diving, and sailing.
Hiking and National Parks: Visit Plitvice Lakes and Krka National Parks when waterfalls are still flowing beautifully. The water level starts to fall, but it’s still higher than it will be in July, August, and September.
City Tours: Enjoy sightseeing in Dubrovnik , Split, and Zagreb without the crowds that are characteristic for summer in historical cities like these.
Wine and Culinary Tours: Visit local vineyards and enjoy authentic Croatian gastronomy delights.
What to Pack for Croatia in June
When it comes to what to pack for Croatia in June, it largely depends on what region you want to visit during your stay. If you intend to explore the coast, then you’ll pack light, almost as it’s summer. Still, bring a light jacket just in case. If you are visiting inland parts of Croatia, then bring a bit warmer clothes, but don’t overpack and bring plenty of summer and light clothes.
Clothing:
Light, breathable fabrics (cotton, linen).
Shorts, t-shirts, dresses, and swimwear.
Light sweater or jacket for cooler evenings.
Footwear:
Comfortable walking shoes if you plan to go sightseeing.
Sandals for the beach.
Water shoes are good to have for rocky beaches that are characteristic for Istria, for example.
Accessories:
Sunglasses, sun hat, and high-SPF sunscreen.
Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. Keep it by you all the time.

Pros and Cons of Visiting Croatia in June
You thought that there are no cons to visiting Croatia in June? Well, there are just a few of them and trust us when we say that June in Croatia can result in a great vacation. We’ll be honest, September is still our most favorite month when it comes to summer season in Croatia, but you can consider June to be the opposite September. Anyways, here are some pros and cons of spending a June in Croatia.
Pros:
Warm, sunny weather perfect for swimming and all kinds of water activities.
Fewer tourists compared to July and August.
Many festivals and local events.
Still good for the outdoor adventures.
Cons:
Prices of the accommodations and flights start to rise as the peak season approaches.
Occasional short rain showers, especially inland.

Croatia in May – Warm and sunny, with average temperatures around 20°C to 25°C. The sea starts warming up, and this is a perfect month for sightseeing and nature exploration. Last month before the heat kicks in.
Croatia in July – Peak summer, with hot and dry weather reaching up to 35°C or more. The beaches are packed, and summer festivals are in full swing. Expect high tourist numbers, especially in the second half of July.
Croatia in August – The hottest month in Croatia, with sea temperatures perfect for swimming. Popular spots are usually crowded, but the islands offer a great escape. The further the island is from the mainland, the more peaceful it is during the summer months.
Croatia in September – A pleasant and slow transition to autumn. The crowds thin out, temperatures stay around 25°C, and the sea remains warm throughout the whole month. A great time for travel through Croatia. September is our favorite month.
Croatia in October – Bit cooler than September but still very comfortable, with averages of 15°C to 20°C. The fall colors in inland Croatia are simply stunning, and the coast remains very warm. The perfect month to enjoy the nature of Croatia.
Croatia in November – A noticeable drop in temperatures (10°C to 15°C), with increased rainfall. The Adriatic can be windy, and many tourist attractions start to close and prepare for the winter.
Croatia in December – Winter sets in, with festive Christmas markets bringing warmth to cities. Snowfall is common inland, while coastal areas remain mild but damp.

If you ask us, June is the great month to visit Croatia and more and more people choose to visit Croatia in what you could call shoulder season. If we compare June in Croatia just 5 years ago with a June nowadays, it’s obvious that more and more visitors are coming to Croatia in less hot months such as May, June, September, and October. Yes, Croatia is still most visited during July and August, but the trends are slowly changing and it’s just a matter of time when, what once was a shoulder season, will become peak season.
