Split, the second largest city in Croatia and favorite destination of many travelers visiting Croatia. It’s famous for its Roman history and one of the best well-preserved Roman palaces in the world – the Diocletian’s Palace. If you are going to spend 2 days in Split, it will be enough to explore some of the most famous landmarks of this city, try some of the local cuisine dishes, and even go on a day trip to nearby islands.

In this article, we are going to discuss how your two days in Split might look, from the exploration and places to see, to activity suggestions that you might want to implement in your itinerary. Split is also a great hub for exploration of the nearby islands, some of which are among the top islands in Croatia. Split is also a starting point for traveling to all of these islands. Day 1: Discovering the Heart of Split

We are going to spend the first day of our two days in Split with the exploration of the city, while on the next day we’re going to explore some of the most famous nearby attractions. One day in Split is enough to experience the unique vibe of this city and some of its most famous places.

Morning

We are going to start our first day with a coffee on a Riva promenade in Split. We suggest starting as early as possible to beat the crowds and heat, especially if visiting Split during the summer. Use your coffee time to soak up the atmosphere and vibe of this city. After that, we’re going to head toward Diocletian’s Palace – the most iconic attraction in Split.

Begin your sightseeing with a visit to Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most well-preserved such complex in the world.
Walk on the Peristyle Square, visit the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, and climb its tower.

Midday

Have lunch at one of the cafes within the palace walls or head to Pjaca (People’s Square) and have a meal in a more vibrant city environment.

Afternoon

Walk the Riva promenade, enjoy the views, and head all the way to the Sustipan Park from where you can observe the boat traffic around Split.
Climb to the Marjan Hill for the best panoramic views of the city.
End your day with a walk through the old part of Split and with a cocktail on the Riva before you head back to your accommodation.

There are many reasons for that, and one of the things we adore Croatian islands is the sea clarity and the authentic way of living.

Take a day trip to any of the islands near Split or visit the famous Blue Cave on Biševo Island near Vis.

Blue Lagoon and 3 Islands Boat Tour – This tour explores the most famous islands in the vicinity of Split and visits the Blue Lagoon on Drvenik Veli.
Blue Cave and Mamma Mia Boat Tour – This tour takes you a bit further, all the way to Biševo and Vis Islands, one of the most remote islands in Croatia. You also get a chance to visit a Blue Cave, one of the most famous island’s places in Croatia.

Afternoon

Return to Split in the late afternoon from any of these tours and take some time to enjoy a relaxing beach time at Bačvice Beach or Kašjuni Beach.

Evening

Dine at a local traditional tavern (konoba) and try Dalmatian dishes like pašticada or black risotto.
